Hypospadias

About Hypospadias:

Hypospadias is a developmental abnormality of the penis which has 3 main features:

  • an abnormal opening of the urinary opening(urethra) on the underside of the penis

  • an abnormally bent penis

  • and an open foreskin where the foreskin is missing on the bottom and bulky at the top

The cause for hypospadias is not specifically known. There is a tendency to occur more frequently in families with hypospadias. The range of abnormality can be mild to severe. Mild forms might not need an operation if they do not cause a functional limitation. The more severe forms might need more than one operation.

Further information about the condition, operation and postoperative care will be provided to you at your appointment.
